Community Hearing Scheduled for Kahnawą:ke Tobacco Law

06/18/2026

The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Commission (KLC) wishes to inform the community that a Community Hearing for the Kahnawą:ke Tobacco Law is scheduled for Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the Knights of Columbus Hall from 5pm to 8pm. If the review of the proposed changes is not completed, a follow-up session will be scheduled.

The draft Kahnawą:ke Tobacco Law went through the Community Decision Making and Review Process (CDMRP). Following that, a legal review highlighted certain sections which required changes which were communicated recently to the community via kiosks, radio talk-shows, and stakeholder consultations to re-acquaint the community with the Law and draft revisions.

The next step in the process is a CDMRP hearing to review these changes with the community, and to obtain consensus on these changes. Once complete, the Law will be read into the record and then proceed to enactment.

The version of the Law with ‘track changes’ is available for viewing at: http://kahnawakemakingdecisions.com/pages/tobacco/

Interested community members on the Kanien’kehį:ka of Kahnawą:ke Registry should pre-register their attendance before the end of the day on Tuesday, June 23, by contacting by contacting Tonia Jacobs, Strategist, at 450-632-7500 ext. 50297, or by email at tonia.jacobs@mck.ca.
