Kahnawą:ke Residency Law: First Hearing Concluded, 30-Day Review Period Begins

The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Commission wishes to advise the community that the first hearing held on Wednesday, 13 Onerahtohkó:wa/May 2026, for amendments to the Kahnawą:ke Residency Law has concluded. Consensus has been reached regarding the proposed draft revisions.

At the Mandate Meeting, the community members present provided the Mandate to amend Law, with the Scope as follows:

  • Complainant confidentiality
  • Clarifying references, including those related to fines
  • Adjusting references that are outdated, such as reference to the Community Review Board
  • Adjusting references to the Administrative Tribunal, and the Court of Kahnawą:ke, as appropriate
  • Clarifying definitions
  • Clerical changes
