Upcoming Community Consultation meeting for the Kahnawą:ke Residency Law02/10/2026The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Commission (KLC) wishes to advise the community that a Community Consultation (Mandate) Meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the Golden Age Club from 6pm to 8:30pm. The Kahnawą:ke Residency Law was originally enacted in 2019 under the Urgent Process. The mandate, purpose, and scope were approved by the community, and the Law obtained community consensus. The Law was required to enter the Regular Process after one year of enactment. The reason for this is to ensure steps not taken while in the Urgent Process would now be taken. The purpose of this Community Consultation (Mandate) meeting is to seek community consensus on the Mandate and Scope of the Law in the Regular Process. The Technical Drafting Committee (TDC) held consultations to re-acquaint the community with the Law and asked for feedback. During those consultations, the community, and the Office of the Kanienkehį:ka of Kahnawą:ke Registry (OKKR), in working with the Law, flagged suggested revisions. Therefore, the community will be asked to:
