2024-2027 Legislative Agenda Announced

The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Commission (KLC) wishes to announce the 2024-2027 Legislative Agenda, which coincides with the current Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) Ratitsénhaienhs three-year term of office:
Three laws have been carried over from the 2021-2024 Legislative Agenda:
- Kahnawà:ke Residency Law;
- Kahnawà:ke Occupational Safety and Health Law; and
- Draft Kahnawà:ke Tobacco Law
There are two (2) remaining positions on the Legislative Agenda, as two (2) laws, Kahnawà:ke Animal Control Law, and Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke Election Law, were recently enacted.
There is currently a Waiting List consisting of five (5) laws:
- Kahnawà:ke Gaming Law;
- Right of Way Law;
- Environmental Laws (Environmental Protection Law & St. Lawrence River Law);
- Kahnawà:ke Peacekeepers Law; and,
- Landlord and Tenant Law
The KLC has determined the need for community engagement for criteria on prioritization of requests for legislation and as a result the two (2) remaining positions on the Legislative Agenda will remain open until the engagement is completed. The community will be notified regarding the details of the community consultation.
