Regulations drafted for Eligibility Criteria and Selection-Appointment of Judges of the Court of Kahnawake

The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Commission wishes to advise the community that the Justice Services Division of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke has drafted the following regulations: Regulation Respecting Eligibility Criteria for Appointment of Judges of the Court of Kahnawà:ke, and Regulation Respecting the Selection and Appointment of Judges of the Court of Kahnawà:ke. Both regulations were drafted pursuant to the Kahnawà:ke Justice Act and amend the existing Regulation 1: Eligibility Criteria for Judges and Regulation 2: Selection Process for Judges.

The Technical Drafting Committee (TDC) is comprised of Commissioner of Justice, Kevin Fleischer, Ietsénhaienhs Tonya Perron, Ratitsénhaienhs Ryan Montour, and Trisha Delormier of Kahnawà:ke Legislative Services.

Community consultation on these regulations has occurred via kiosk (held on 20 Seskehkó:wa/September 2024) and focus group (held on 23 Seskehkó:wa /September 2024).

The Draft Regulations will be available for a 30-day feedback period beginning this Monday, 18 Kentenhkó:wa/November, and ending on Wednesday, 18 Tsothórha/December 2024.
