Kahnawą:ke Animal Control Law Hearing January 2401/11/2024The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Commission (KLC) wishes to inform the community that the Hearing regarding the Kahnawą:ke Animal Control Law has been re-scheduled for Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at the Kahnawą:ke Moose Lodge from 6pm to 8:30pm, after being postponed on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, due to lack of attendance. As per the Kahnawą:ke Decision-Making and Review Process (CDMRP), a public hearing is a required step and community involvement is vital to this Process prior to enactment of all Laws. Due to the lack of attendance and the time/costs associated with booking and holding a hearing, there will be a pre-registration requirement to ensure there will be community participants in attendance. The minimum number required to hold a hearing will be ten (10) community members. The KLC has amended the process for hearings when participation does not meet the minimum requirements. An announcement will be made in coming days. Interested persons must be on the Kanienkehį:ka of Kahnawą:ke Registry and should pre-register their attendance by contacting Karen Barnaby, of the Public Safety Division, at (450) 632-0635, or by email at karen.barnaby@mck.ca. Please register by 4pm on Friday, January 19, 2024. The amended draft law is available for viewing in both a tracked change version - showing where changes were made ( click here to view tracked change version), and a clean copy - fully revised (click here to view clean copy). The Feedback Report for the Kahnawą:ke Animal Control Law was revised and posted online December 21, 2023.
