MCK Election Law Community Consultation meeting

The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Commission (KLC) wishes to inform the community that a Community Consultation to obtain a mandate to amend the MCK Election Law will be held on August 8, 2023, at the Golden Age Club from 6pm to 8:30pm.

The community will be asked for the following:

  1. A mandate to amend the Kahnawà:ke Election Law through the CDMP
  2. Approval of the Purpose & Scope of the Kahnawà:ke Election Law
  3. Selection of three (3) Community Representatives to sit on the Technical Drafting Committee

PURPOSE: The Law is intended to provide the criteria and procedures for the nomination and selection of a twelve (12) member Council composed of eleven (11) Ratitsénhaienhs and one (1) Ohén:ton Í:iente ne Ratitsénhaienhs.

SCOPE: Provisions to assist with managing the election process as efficiently and effectively as possible, maintaining the Election Law to reflect a change to other impacting Laws, and addressing issues brought forward based on experiential knowledge.

Should a Mandate be achieved, the community will be notified of the First Hearing to move the Law through the Community Decision Making Review Process.

Refreshments and meal(s) will be provided, and as an added incentive, participants will be entered to win a $50 Shop Kahnawake gift certificate.

Interested persons must be on the Kanien’kehá:ka of Kahnawà:ke Registry and should confirm their attendance by contacting Sydney Ross, Administrative Assistant to the Executive Office, at 450-632-7500 or by email at sydney.ross@mck.ca.

Please reply by 4pm on Friday, August 4, 2023, to ensure we plan accordingly for the meals.
