The amendments include:

  • setting a permanent date for elections (the first Saturday in July every three years);
  • vetting of candidates for Electoral Officer by the Kahnawą:ke Justice Commission in preparation for the election of said Officer;
  • establishment of a process for the review of pre-election decisions by the Electoral Officer;
  • clarification of eligibility requirement that a nominee for Council Chief or Grand Chief must declare his/her private business holdings;
  • and the transfer of several provisions into a regulation.

The amended Law is hereby put into force with the publication on www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com.
