Kahnawake Family Homes Law repealed, re-enters CDMP1/24/2018The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) would like to advise the community that the Kahnawà:ke Family Homes and Matrimonial Interests Law, which had been enacted by Chief & Council on 27, Kenténha/October 2014 and put into force on 8, Tsothóhrha/ The request was made to have the Law repealed because no substantive activity took place to move it forward once the Law re-entered the regular Community Decision Making Process (CDMP), as per KLCC requirement. The Law had been passed using the CDMP’s Urgent Process provision. The Mohawk Council Resolution was passed by ten (10) Council Chiefs, with Ratsénhaienhs Clinton Phillips abstaining. Ratsénhaienhs Bobby Patton was on Bereavement Leave and not present for the meeting. As part of the Resolution, the Law was immediately resubmitted to the KLCC in order to be prioritized and set on the 2015-2018 Legislative Agenda/Calendar using the regular CDMP. View PDF |
