12/07/2016

The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (“the KLCC”) would like to inform the community that the Kahnawą:ke Family Homes and Matrimonial Interests Law (“the Law”) has re-entered the Community Decision Making Process (CDMP).

The Law was passed into law on 27, Kenténha/October 2014 using the Urgent Law Making Process of the CDMP and brought into force on 8, Tsothóhrha/December 2014. Any legislation passed using the Urgent Law Making Process must be resubmitted to the KLCC and re-enter the regular CDMP within one year. The resubmission was received and accepted on 27, Kentenhkó:wa/November 2015.

Therefore the KLCC has received confirmation today that the Law is now officially in the Information dissemination phase of the regular CDMP. The Law is once again being made available for viewing at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com . Please note that an update on the current status of the Law is forthcoming, along with a description of the next steps. A meeting will be scheduled for early to mid-February 2017.
