Proposed Kahnawake Tobacco Law passes first hurdle as Consensus reached on final four sections6/17/2016The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) wishes to announce that the final four sections of the proposed Kahnawą:ke Tobacco Law has passed its first Hearing with consensus being reached on the final four Sections at last evenings meeting. Sections VIII (Certificates and Other Forms of Authorization); Section IX (Price Controls); Section X (Community Contribution Fund); and Section XI (Administration, Inspectors, Enforcement, Judicial Process, and Coming Into Force) were completed as the participants reached clear consensus on the Sections, which consist of approximately four pages. Only one minor change was made in relation to Clause 10.5, which removed the naming of a specific financial institution and, instead, utilized the more generic term. At the conclusion of the meeting, Evelyn Lahache-Jacobs was selected as a Community Representative for the purposes of oversight for the Drafting Team, which will now make changes to the draft in respect to the communitys wishes during the Hearing process. Up to two more Community Representatives may be selected at a later date. The next steps in this special process will be announced by the KLCC shortly.
