Next Membership Law Hearing tomorrow6/13/2016The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) would like to advise the community that the next meeting on proposed amendments to the Kahnawą:ke Membership Law will take place tomorrow (Tuesday, 14 Ohiarķ:ha/June 2016). The first item on the agenda will be the continuation of the Definition of Kanienkehį:ka Great Grand Parent specifically the definition of the word Shateienekwenhsi:hen, a term which roughly translated means a person who comes from two cultures in approximately equal measures. While preliminary consensus was reached to use the term, certain details (such as the use of 47% blood quantum in the definition) will need to be discussed before the issue can be declared concluded. Other agenda items include Section 15 (Application Process/Approved Kahnawą:ke Residents); Section 16 (Entitlements of the Kanienkehį:ka of Kahnawą:ke); Section 17 (Privileges of Approved Kahnawą:ke Residents); Section 18 (Responsibilities of the Kanienkehį:ka of Kahnawą:ke) and any relevant or affected Definitions. The meeting will be held from 6pm to 8:30pm at the Golden Age Club and will be the 14th in this First Hearing phase of the Community Decision Making Process.
