First four sections of proposed Kahnawake Tobacco law passed at CDMP First Hearing

The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission would like to inform the community that the first four sections of the proposed Kahnawą:ke Tobacco Law passed by consensus at last evening’s inaugural meeting of the First Hearing phase of the Community Decision Making Process.

The sections of the law passed included Jurisdiction, Paramountcy, Intent & Purpose and Scope. The first three sections passed within thirty minutes. Consensus was reached on Section #4 (Scope) after an hour of discussion and debate. With the completion of the agenda, the meeting was closed at 7:50pm.

Over fifty (50) community members participated, with approximately ten further people sitting as observers.

The next meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, 24 Kentenhkó:wa/November 2015 at the Knight of Columbus Hall. The formal agenda will be announced shortly.
