Tobacco Community Feedback report available for viewing

12/23/2014

The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) wishes to advise the community that the report on Community Feedback has been completed and submitted. The document is now available for viewing on the KLCC website.

The proposal to develop a law to create Tobacco Regulations using the CDMP Urgent Process has been underway since early this year. Community members are urged to view the report in preparation for the upcoming Community Consultations phase in early 2015. The ultimate goal of this process is to gain a community mandate to move forward to begin the formal/actual creation of a law.

The preliminary and unofficial draft of a potential law was submitted by the Kahnawake Tobacco Association (KTA) and was made available on the KLCC website for viewing and comment on 18 Ohiarihkó:wa/July 2014.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke/ KTA Working Group as part of an exploratory pilot project that allows the parties to work together to facilitate the processing of the KTA’s proposed law through the Community Decision Making Process.
