The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke (MCK) wishes to remind Kahnawa’kehró:non that the Third and Final Hearing of the Kahnawą:ke Justice System Law – usually referred to as the ‘Justice Act’ – will take place at the Golden Age Club this week.

The MCK wishes to apologize for an erroneous announcement in one of its YouTube video reports published last week. Corrective measures have since been put into place. Please note that the correct information for the event is as follows:

Date: Wednesday, 12 Kentenhkó:wa/November, 2014

Time: 6pm to 8pm

Place: Golden Age Club

At this time the Justice Act will officially be read into the record. It will be formally signed into law by Chief & Council in the coming weeks, with a date expected to be announced shortly.

“We’re urging community members to witness this piece of history,” said Justice Portfolio Chief Christine Zachary-Deom. “There has been an incredible amount of effort that has gone into this over the past several years. Everyone who had a role in the creation of this landmark legislation should be acknowledged, especially Director of Justice Services Ron Skye.”

The community mandate to proceed with the creation of a law to use as the basis for a Kahnawą:ke justice system was given on 3, Ennķska/February 2010.
