Discussion forum on Membership Law residency ineligibility tomorrow (Tuesday)

09/29/2014

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke would like to remind the community that a discussion forum for persons who have an alternate viewpoint on the non-Native residency ineligibility of the Kahnawą:ke Membership Law will take place tomorrow evening from 7 to 10pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

This forum is a direct follow-up to the September 16th Community Meeting, where it was agreed that more open dialogue and discussion was required on this matter.

As stated earlier, this event will provide an opportunity for those who may have issues with the residency requirements to present their thoughts and ideas to Chief & Council in a respectful forum. Those affected by the residency requirements will be welcome, whether or not they are listed on the Kahnawą:ke Kanien’kehį:ka Registry.

For clarity, all community members are welcome to attend.

“This meeting will not be a debate,” said Membership Portfolio Chief Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer. “It’s an opportunity to hear different viewpoints, whether or not they reflect the sentiment of the majority. It’s the right thing to do.”
