The Kahnawà:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) would like to inform the community that the draft of the proposed Kahnawà:ke Tobacco Law submitted by the Kahnawà:ke Tobacco Association (KTA), is now available to the community for review on-line at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com .Hard copies can also be picked up at the main MCK reception or at the Rainbow Tobacco reception, located on Route 138 in Kahnawà:ke.
Any and all feedback should be directed to MCK Technician Dennis Diabo and KTA Technician Peggy Mayo-Standup. Feedback forms are available on the website. Due to the urgent nature of the law, feedback/comments will be accepted until Friday, 8 Seskéha/ August at 4pm. Once the review period ends, a feedback report will be compiled and made available to the community. The Technical Team will then consult with various stakeholders prior to community wide consultations to ensure the community at large understands the issue and has the opportunity to provide their input. The Draft Law will then enter Phase II of the Community Decision Making Process (CDMP), where this information will inform their decisions regarding the mandate, scope, purpose and intent.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the MCK/KTA Tobacco Working Group is part of an exploratory pilot project which allows the parties to work together to facilitate the processing of the KTA’s proposed law through the CDMP to regulate the tobacco industry. The MOU can be viewed at the KLCC office located on the 3rd Floor of the Court of Kahnawà:ke.
