Election Law amendments meeting rescheduled to next Wednesday, June 1806/12/2014The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke would like to inform Kahnawakehró:non that, due the postponement of last evenings hearing for proposed amendments to the Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke Election Law, the meeting has been rescheduled to Wednesday, June 18th. Last nights meeting was postponed due to low attendance. The agenda will remain the same, with discussions needed on proposed amendments on disclosure of candidates private business holdings; wording changes to clarify eligibility requirement in the event that a candidate was removed from office in previous term; prohibition of partisan election advertising at polling station; prohibition of fundraising at polling station and grounds that surround the premises; creation of an independent Pre-Election Decisions and Review Board. Additionally, there was no consensus reached in previous meetings on the question of whether to reduce the number of chiefs from twelve (12) to nine (9). Should no final consensus be reached, the status quo would remain. The hearing will take place at the Golden Age Club from 6pm to 8:30pm. View PDF |
