MCK Election Law hearing Wednesday evening at Karonhianonhnha

04/29/2014

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke (MCK) wishes to remind Kahnawa’kehró:non that the next Community Decision Making Process hearing for proposed amendments to the Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke Election Law will take place tomorrow (Wednesday) evening from 6pm to 8:30pm.

Please note that this meeting will be held at the Karonhianónhnha School gymnasium.

The question being posed tomorrow will be whether or not there should be qualifications to hold office and, if so, what those qualifications would be.

“At the last meeting, we discussed whether there should be a reduction in the number of Chiefs,” said MCK Technician Trina C. Diabo, who is the person responsible for the Election Law amendments. “While there wasn’t a consensus, it became clear that both groups felt the need to link the number of Chiefs with the upcoming discussion on qualifications for holding office. We expect it should be an interesting meeting”

Those wishing to attend are urged to visit the www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com website to view the first draft of the proposed amendments and other information related to the process.
