Date set for Mohawk Council of Kahnawake Election Law Community Consultation02/26/2014The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that the Community Consultation to discuss the draft proposed amendments to the Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke Election Law will take place on Tuesday, 25, Enniskó:wa/March 2014, from 6pm to 8:30pm at the Golden Age Club. The announcement was made as part of a presentation at last nights Winter Community Meeting. Trina C. Diabo, the MCK technician who is leading the amendment process, announced that there will be information kiosks at the Services Complex on March 13 and 14. Additionally, a single-question survey will be conducted at that time. The March 25th Community Consultation will be a continuation of the previous meeting held last November, said Ms. Diabo. At that meeting there was no consensus on the question of whether the so-called fifty percent clause should remain in the law as an eligibility requirement for candidates for Chief & Council. This is what the survey will be about, which should help us get a sense of where the general population stands on this. The survey will be for information purposes, as all decisions are actually made during the Community Decision Making Process, she concluded. Those planning to participate in the Community Consultation are asked to review the current draft and feedback report, both of which are available at the MCK main office, or online at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com. Community Consultations are the means for Kahnawakehró:non to participate directly in the creation or amendments of Kahnawą:ke laws. These meetings are the main focus of the Community Decision Making Process. View PDF |
