Membership Law Community Consultations to discuss definition of Common Law

01/09/2014

The Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke would like to inform the community that the 17th Community Consultation on proposed amendments to the Kahnawą:ke Membership Law will take place next Tuesday, 14 Tsothohrkó:wa/January, from 6pm to 8:30pm.

Please note that this meeting will be located at the Golden Age Club.

At this meeting, the MCK Membership Department will propose: 1. A revised definition of common-law relationships, and offer options on the length of time for the definition 2. A revision to the suspension of a Member due to marriage or common-law relationship with a non-Indigenous person, and offer options on the length of time

“These topics had been discussed in previous Community Consultations but were put into the ‘parking lot’ to come back to once we reviewed how the common-law definition is used in other laws,” explained Membership Registrar Rose-Ann Morris.

Participants are being urged to arrive a few minutes early in order for the meeting to begin and end on schedule.
