Kahnawake Legislative Coordinating Commission receives request to amend Tewatohnhisaktha Election Law

09/16/2013

The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) would like to advise the community that they have received a request to amend the Tewatohnhi’saktha Election Law to allow for a youth representative on the Board of Directors. The amendments would be made using the Community Decision Making Process (CDMP).

The submission was made by community member Shotehra Rice.

As per protocol, the submission will be sent to the Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke’s Legal Services, who will be responsible to make recommendations to Chief & Council in regard to categorization of the law and whether it should use the CDMP’s ‘Type 1’ process (for laws of general application), or ‘Type 2’ (laws of a regulatory nature).

Chief & Council will make the final determination regarding categorization, as well as the priority of the submission.

For more information on the request/submission, please contact KLCC Coordinator Kahente Horn-Miller at 450-638-5647 or Kahente.horn-miller@mck.ca
