Membership Law meeting recap07/11/2013The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission would like to inform the community that the Community Consultations for Amendments to the Kahnawą:ke Membership Law are now on summer hiatus following the conclusion of last evenings meeting. In that meeting, attended by approximately a dozen participants and observers, Group 3 reached preliminary consensus and accepted the June 26th proposals from the combined Group 1 & 2 on maintaining the provision for suspension and revocation of a Member upon marriage or Common- law marriage to a non-Indigenous person. Group 3 will present the results of their discussions, such as their recommendation to develop clearer definitions for Common-law, once the Community Consultations resume in the fall. If Group 3s recommendations are accepted, final consensus on this topic can be declared and the next question can be presented for discussion. The minutes for last nights Community Consultation will be made available for viewing on www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com in the near future. View PDF |
