Outcome of Membership Law Community Consultation

The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) wishes to update the community regarding the outcome of last evening’s Community Consultation on amendments to the Kahnawą:ke Membership Law.

Consensus by all three groups was reached to allow applicants who meet the criteria of having four Mohawk great-grandparents to be automatically enrolled as Members by the Membership Registrar at birth.

A proposal/suggestion to consider applicants who have three Mohawk great-grandparents with certain circumstances or considerations will continue to be discussed at the next Community Consultation. For more information on this proposal and to gain an understanding of the discussion, please refer to the minutes to be posted at www.kahnawakemakingdecisions.com.

Approximately 25 people participated in the Consultation, which was held from 6pm to 8:30pm at the Karonhianónhnha School.
