Outcome of Membership Law Community Consultation

The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) wishes to update the community regarding the outcome of last evening’s Community Consultation on amendments to the Kahnawą:ke Membership Law.

Consensus by all three groups was reached to allow applicants who meet the criteria of having four Mohawk great-grandparents to be automatically enrolled as Members by the Membership Registrar at birth.

A proposal/suggestion to consider applicants who have three Mohawk great-grandparents with certain circumstances or considerations will continue to be discussed at the next Community Consultation. Approximately 25 people participated in the Consultation, which was held from 6pm to 8:30pm at the Karonhianónhnha School.
