First draft of Kahnawą:ke Justice System available for viewing

The Kahnawą:ke Legislative Coordinating Commission (KLCC) is proud to announce that the first draft of the Kahnawą:ke Justice System is now available for public viewing on the kahnawakemakingdecisions.com website. Written copies can be obtained at the main reception of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawą:ke.

In accordance with the Community Decision Making Process, a sixty (60) day consultation period has begun and Community Hearings will be held where the draft will be formally presented to Kahnawa’kehró:non for further discussion. The dates for these hearings will be announced in the near future.

The document was formally accepted at a short ceremony held May 10th at the Court of Kahnawą:ke. It was approved unanimously by the members of the Justice working group; community representatives Chris Bush, Jeremiah Johnson, Kenneth Diabo and Richard Nolan; and the participating members of the KLCC Chiefs Advisory Group (Mike Bush, Kahsennenhawe Sky-Deer, Martin Leborgne and Clinton Phillips).

The mandate to create the draft was given by the community at a duly convened Community Hearing held on 3, Ennķska/February 2010.
